Talking on LBC with David Lammy
I can’t believe that it’s ten years since the Equal Marriage Act was created. I married June late in 2014. If we had married before the Act, and I had chosen to get a Gender Recognition Certificate (GRC), we would have been two women. Before the Act, June and I would’ve been forced to divorce as two women weren’t allowed to be married. At this point, I don’t feel the need to have a GRC.
I spoke to David Lammy on LBC on that Act anniversary. We discussed the level of hate towards LGBT+ people and why it is increasing. The culture wars are being increased due to the General Election coming soon, and the Conservatives are using these wars to create more fear in people in the hope the population will vote for them. The hatred is inbuilt in people due to the fear of ‘other’, the fear of things they do not understand.
I have been challenged to look deeply at my pain, a pain installed by society over decades. I could feel that pain and anger and rage over the treatment I received. Most people don’t wish to look deeply and spend life in the shallow end of the pool where they can put their feet on the bottom. I prefer to spend life at the deep end of the pool because I can find out so much more about myself. Most people are not aware of themselves. This is why they are very fearful of themselves and the other people around them. They are programmed by fear and so are easily manipulated by the powers that be.
I spoke to David Lammy on the 28th March about this. Thanks to David and LBC for the opportunity to talk.
